In 1987, CREEM Magazine asked photographer Paul Natkin to shoot Robert Smith of The Cure. Given the band’s intense popularity—and Smith’s more intense look—Natkin feared the worst. “Man, this is going to be really tough.” Instead, he was greeted by a Robert Smith described as “probably the nicest person I ever met in my life.” Smith even made him tea.
